PacRim Stainless 2014

PacRim Stainless 2014 marked ASSDA’s 21st conference, and was held on 9 and 10 October at the Hilton Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. The event themed Catching the next wave was a tremendous success (or in surfing terms, “off the hook!”).

ASSDA is pleased to have received a very positive response to the conference and its theme, particularly in the quality and variety of this year’s speaker program, discussions for market development and networking opportunities:

"Congratulations on PacRim 2014! Excellent papers covering a varied range of very interesting topics, and we had some excellent discussions with many of the other delegates – both from Australia and further afield. Certainly no complaints about the location or the social programme either! It was a long way to travel, but we really enjoyed ourselves, as well as having the opportunity to participate in what was a very informative event. Well done to you all. And I’ve already penciled in a trip to Australia for PacRim 2015! I look forward to seeing you all again then."

Richard Clark, Managing Director, Stainless Steel Focus Ltd. (United Kingdom)

The conference combined education, new trends and developments, inspiration and plenty of networking over two-half day speaker sessions, two happy hours, two dinners and an afternoon of golf. A big congratulations to Greg Childs of Valbruna Australia and Richard Matheson of ASSDA for winning this year's PacRim Golf Ambrose. The 2014 conference was also the first time a half-day educational seminar supported by Engineers Australia was incorporated into the program, where ASSDA’s Technical Specialist Dr Graham Sussex presented a secondary level seminar titled Stainless 201.

PacRim Stainless 2014 could not have happened without the generous support of its sponsors: Amity Pacific, Atlas Steels, Austral Wright Metals, Dalsteel Metals, Oliveri and Vulcan Stainless. ASSDA would like to express its sincere thanks to the PacRim Committee for its assistance in the organisation of this event: Steve Warnett (Oliveri), Allan Morris (Austral Wright Metals), Gerard Mulcahy (MME Surface Finishing), Paul d'Alpuget (Winsmore) and Glenn Sachko (Global Stainless Steel). ASSDA would also like to thank Stephen Durrant for his support and organisation of the PacRim Golf afternoon.

Plans will soon be underway for PacRim Stainless 2015 - watch this space. If you have any feedback or ideas for the 2015 venue and theme, please contact
