AVA Bridge: Network Rail’s adaptable footbridge and lift
On Tuesday 30 July worldstainless Secretary-General Tim Collins visited the McNealy Brown’s yard to view a new demonstration bridge developed by Network Rail and the AVA Bridge Consortium. The AVA Bridge is the first of its kind and is designed to revolutionise the procurement, manufacture and installation of footbridges for railway stations.
AVA differs from other bridge designs as the external cladding and the structural elements behind the cladding - are all made of stainless steel. The limited need for maintenance is clear in the appearance of the bridge, and the bridge becomes an object with a very strong identity. With its powerful alignment to resilient materials and low maintenance design solutions the bridge is essentially a ‘high tech’ cost efficient design statement. The core players within the AVA Bridge Consortium see themselves as a global innovation group and are interested in taking their concept to a wider stage.
