What’s new in stainless steel?
NASCC: The Steel Conference
Speakers: Dr Francisco Meza and Benjamin Baer
The newly released 2025 versions of the Stainless Steel Specification (AISC 370) and Code of Standard Practice (AISC 313), updated based on the latest research and user feedback, bring structural stainless steel design into better alignment with AISC 360-22 and 303-22. This Q&A-style session addresses common questions about the revised Specification and Code, including alloy applications, seismic design, and bolted and welded connections.

The New AISC Design Guide 41: Structural Joints Using Stainless Steel Bolts 2026
NASCC: The Steel Conference
Speakers: Dr Francisco Meza and Justin Ocel
Stainless steel fasteners offer strength, durability, and corrosion resistance – key qualities for critical applications where bolt failures can be costly. This session introduces the new AISC/RCSC Design Guide 41 Structural Joints Using Stainless Steel Bolts. It covers the design, installation, and inspection of stainless steel bolted joints, including connections between stainless and carbon steel members. The session covers how to specify components per ASTM and ASME standards, compare stainless and carbon steel fasteners, and apply best practices for snug-tight, pre-tensioned, and slip-critical joints. Special considerations for dissimilar metals and troubleshooting tips will be discussed throughout.
