Specifier engagement in emerging markets
On 16 November, the IIW Mumbai Chapter (Indian Institute of Welding) hosted a webinar attended by over 200 participants titled Welding of Stainless Steels – Practical Aspects presented by Nickel Institute’s Gary Coates. Gary discussed practical issues in welding stainless steels, emphasizing mistakes caused by poor assumptions by engineers, welders, or inspectors. He highlighted alloy selection considerations for corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength, exploring misunderstandings about stainless steel families.
On 21 November, the INASSDA (Indonesian Stainless Steel Development Association) hosted a webinar titled Selecting the Right Grade presented by Dr. Graham Sussex. Dr. Sussex discussed the 100-year history of stainless steels and highlighted common misunderstandings regarding corrosion resistance across grades. He emphasized the importance of selecting materials based on mechanical and physical properties and explained the IMOA/ASSDA model for atmospheric corrosion resistance in various environments.
