With over half of the world’s population now living in urban areas, the concept of sustainable or eco-cities has become increasingly attractive. The overall goal is an urban area that can at least partially feed and power itself, thus minimizing its reliance on the surrounding countryside while reducing its ecological footprint and contributing to climate change.
