The safe operation of every nuclear power plant depends on a service water piping system. This complex system provides a dependable water supply for cooling plant equipment, and can consist of thousands of feet of large to small diameter pipe. The piping material has to resist corrosion from the cooling water, ranging from clean fresh water to polluted seawater, over the lifetime of the plant.
